KOCHI: A National seminar on the ‘Challenges in Nanoscience and Technology’ will be organised by the department of Chemistry, St Teresa’s College, in association with Cochin University of Science and Technology on July 28 and 29.Nanotechnology is considered as the science of  manipulating materials at the atomic level. It has the ability to bring a mass change in every sphere of life. It can solve the problems such as supplying clean water globally, providing renewable clean energy, improving health and longevity, healing and preserving the environment and also maximising agricultural productivity. But there are drawbacks too which will be touched upon. The conference will bring together resource persons from different disciplines to discuss the challenges and future prospects of nanotechnology. K George Thomas, professor, School of Chemistry and Dean of IISER, Thiruvananthapuram, will deliver the keynote address. The topics of discussion are ‘Time and space: towards smaller scale’, ‘Quantum chemistry of nanomaterials’, ‘Polymer nanocomposites’, ‘Nanomaterials in cancer medicine’ and ‘Nanotechnology in space applications’.
