VELLORE: The Government Hospital (GH) in Sholinghur on Sunday was awarded National Accreditation for Hospital and Healthcare Providers for providing good healthcare for patients and maintaining a good standard on par with corporate hospitals.Health Minister Dr VS Vijay, who handed over the National Accreditation Board for Hospital and Healthcare Providers (NABH) certificate to the representatives of the hospital in a programme held at Vellore Collectorate, said, “The Sholinghur GH is the second government hospital in the state to receive the certificate. The GH in Namakkal is the first hospital to receive the certificate.”Based on various criteria, such as performance, infrastructure and maintenance of cleanliness, the certificate has been issued to the hospitals, said the minister.On the Medical Service Recruitment Board, the minister said that Tamil Nadu was the first state to constitute a board to recruit doctors, nurses and other paramedical staff for the government healthcare system. “We have recruited around 50 physiotherapists through this board,” he said.Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has allocated Rs 5,500 crore for health ministry to improve the standard of healthcare and infrastructure on par with private and corporate hospitals. “It is 40 per cent higher fund allocation for the ministry,” he added.Under the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme, a total of 56 surgeries have been performed in government hospitals in Chennai. “Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital has got `8 crore under the health insurance scheme. It will be utilised to improve infrastructure, purchase equipment and also to pay the doctors, nurses and paramedical staff who perform surgeries under the scheme,” added the minister.
