The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has so far spent `87-`90 crore on different development works as against the Rs 170 crore proposed for the beautification of the city ahead of the biodiversity conference which began on October 1.
The remaining Rs 80 crore development works such as recarpeting of roads, water fountains, signages, greenery and others are under various stages of execution and expected to be completed by next week, GHMC Commissioner MT Krishna Baud said here on Thursday.
Rains during the last few days, shortage of manpower and limited machinery with contractors, lack of hot mix plants and single contractor bagging several contract works are some of the factors that delayed the works.
“The GHMC proposed works to the tune of `170 crore in July itself and waited for funds from the government.
However, all pending works are expected to be completed by June next year,” Krishna Babu said.
Work on signages got hampered due to litigation in the court.
After the court verdict, one of the contractors supplied sub-standard material forcing the GHMC to stall the works, while one of the agencies failed to deliver the signages on time, resulting in the overall delay of installing signages at identified road corridors, he explained.
On the issue of rock sculptors, of the 15, as many as 13 have been placed in different parts of the city, while the remaining two will be placed at the High Court and the GHMC head-office, for which foundations are being laid, he added.
Similarly, sculptures made out of scrap material have been placed in different parts of the city. Finishing touches are being given to mural and painting works and it is all expected to be completed before October 8. Also the three link roads leading to HICC and Hitex have been completed and are already being used to transport the delegates, the commissioner explained.
