Jammu: Three persons--the bridegroom, his father, and the bride's mother--were killed when militants from the Hizb-ul-Mujahadeen attacked a wedding party in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir, the police said Friday. The attack was reportedly led by a militant who wanted to marry the bride.
After a visit to the mountainside village of Dewal Morah, Bhramidhar, about 130 km from here, the police discovered that the Hizb-ul-Mujahadeen militants opened fire on the wedding party late on Thursday, officials said.
The bridegroom, Ejaz Ahmad, and his father Ahmad Malik and the bride's mother Taja Begum were killed in the firing.
It is learnt that one of the militants identified as Farooq Ahmad wanted to marry the girl and on receiving news that she was getting married to someone else, he and three other militants attacked the wedding party, the police said.
Search operations have been launched to nab the accused, the police said.
Inspector General of Police (Jammu Zone) K. Rajendra Kumar, who visited the spot, told IANS that the police would be able to trace the killers soon.
"All the militants involved in the incident were locals," Kumar said.
"This incident has generated a lot of anger among the residents of the area against the militants," Kumar said.
