Three murders within last three months, policemen are averse to work in areas under the limits of Kothamangalam station. The post of the sub-inspector at the station has been lying vacant for the past six months.
Even after several requests from the district police chief Police Department has not initiated any step to appoint a sub-inspector at the station.
“We have sent a request to the police headquarters but we have not received any response from there so far.
At present all cases are being investigated by an additional sub-inspector. The station is also reeling under severe shortage of policemen.
Recently when violence flared up in the region we had to depute policemen from other stations.
The murder cases are being investigated by a Circle Inspector who has to supervise five other police stations,” a police official at the Kothamangalam police station said.
The Intelligence has warned about the possibility of severe law and order issues in the region.
Recently two murder cases were reported from the area. Besides, during the nurses’ strike the local people went on a rampage destroying public property.
Investigation into all these cases are pending. The probe into the murder of a housewife which took place in August has reached nowhere and the local people had staged a police station march in this regard.
