THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Government has entered into a pact with the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) to harness the unexplored wind energy potential of the state.
According to the memorandum of understanding signed between NTPC officials and state Power Department officials here on Monday in the presence of Union Minister of State for Power K C Venugopal and Power Minister Aryadan Mohammed, the NTPC has agreed to generate 200 MW of wind energy from the state. 'The NTPC will begin producing 200 MW in the next one year provided the land is handed over at the earliest. We have also requested the NTPC to find more projects by which nonconventional energy resources can be harnessed,' said K C Venugopal. The state has identified four locations for wind energy harnessing; Ramakkalmedu, Udumbanchola (Idukki), Attappadi and Kanjikode (Palakkad).
