BANGALORE: The state government to meet the increasing demands of paramedic and staff nurses, is now planning to set up an independent university for paramedical and nursing courses.
"Though paramedics and nurses play vital role in the healthcare sector, more emphasis is given to doctors. This university aims to educate students in becoming well versed with the subject knowledge like doctors. The course will also help in creating manpower to serve in rural areas", said Medical Education Minister S A Ramdass, speaking at the inauguration of the ICU facility at Kidwai Institute of Oncology.Under the guidance of Dr Devi Shetty of Narayana Hrudayalaya, a 14 member committee has been constituted to frame the functioning of an exclusive university for paramedics and nursing in the state.

"Students who have finished preuniversity course irrespective of the stream, who have finished six months additional courses can join for these courses," Dr Shetty added.

Promoting generic drugs

"We are working on opening the stall so that poor patients can get the medicine at reasonable rates," the medical minister added.

Infrastructural improvement

Speaking of the clinical trial in the government hospital, Ramadas further stated a two member committee will hold a meeting next week to discuss the matter regarding clinical trials and will soon take a decision.
