New Delhi: Four friends, including three B.Com students, were arrested here for allegedly stealing debit cards and buying electronic items worth over Rs 2 lakh, the police said on Monday
Prabhakar Kumar (22), Chandan (22), Prashant Kumar Jha (21) and Sanjay Kumar (24) were apprehended following investigations into a complaint by Sachil Dagur on May 6, that his debit card has been stolen and misused.
They were arrested after police found that the card was used for buying petrol. Information regarding ownership and movements of the car was collected by the police which led to the arrest on May 8.
Prabhakar, a third year B.Com student is pursuing his studies through correspondence from School of Open Learning of Delhi University while Chandan is pursuing BBA (third year) from Chandra Prabhu Jain Institute of Management in Patparganj.
Prashant is pursuing B.Com (1st year) through School of Open Learning, North Campus, New Delhi. Sanjay presently works as a supervisor at a restaurant in New Friends Colony.
Sanjay allegedly stole ATM cards belonging to the patrons of the restaurant and then made purchases at different stores.
Chandan often used to watch customers at the ATM booths and managed to ascertain the PIN Code number from the movements of the fingers of the person operating the card.
"Very often, the customer would drop the transaction slip in the dustbin which was collected by Chandan and he got to know the account number. With the help of account number and PIN Code, he would purchase railway tickets and mobile recharge coupons through the internet," said Thakur.
