Sudden rains bring respite, traffic woes

CHENNAI: The sudden spell of shower on Tuesday afternoon may have brought down the temperature, but it threw traffic out of gear in most parts of the city.The showers caught most office-goers by surprise, even as many were preparing to head home after work. The Nungambakkam observatory recorded 25.6 mm rainfall, while Meenambakkam recorded 19.7 mm.Traffic was thrown out of gear on arterial roads such as Anna Salai and GST Road with vehicles piling up for hours. In Choolaimedu, traffic was clogged near the subway at Loyola College causing a jam in the surrounding areas of Nungambakkam, Chetpet, Aminjikarai and Anna Nagar. In Guindy, traffic was clogged around the Race Course Road due to water stagnation.
