Chennai: The Tamil film industry is planning to hold a rally seeking the release of the seven convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case under humanitarian grounds.
According to the industry, the seven convicts have been in jail for more than 20 years and have showed good conduct throughout their term.
The film fraternity is planning to conduct a rally and present a formal request to the Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa to release the seven convicts under article 161 of the constitution.
Santhan, Murugan and Arivu are currently lodged in the Central Prison, Vellore and they are in jail since 1991. The other four are also undergoing life sentence for their role in Gandhi's assassination on May 21, 1991 in Sriperumbudur.
