TANGEDCO man seeks bribe, caught

CHENNAI: The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption (DVAC), on Friday, arrested an official of TANGEDCO for demanding bribe to sanction service connections to a Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited  (BSNL) employee.DVAC sources said that Dhanasekaran (42), who works as a lineman at BSNL, had approached the TANGEDCO office in Medavakkam with applications for two service connections to his newly built house. When he had gone back to check on the pending application on Thursday, Rajesh Kannan (38), a commercial assistant with TANGEDCO, had allegedly asked him to pay Rs 7,000 when the legal fee for the two connections was only Rs 3,200. When Dhanasekaran said he did not have that much money, he was asked to pay an initial amount of Rs 5,000 and pay the rest later.The BSNL employee then approached the DVAC with a complaint on Friday. A team headed by DSP Saraswati caught Rajesh Kannan red handed when he took the bribe amount from Dhanasekaran on Friday afternoon. The DVAC has filed a case and has arrested the TANGEDCO employee.
