Tension at Rajolibanda project site

 RAICHUR: CM Sadananda Gowda called DC Anbukumar and took stock of the situation of the Rajolibanda diversion project. There was tension at the site on Sunday and hundreds of farmers, from both the Telangana region and the Rayalaseema region, gathered at the site which is situated in Raichur taluk. The Rajolibanda irrigation diversion project irrigates a meager amount of land in Karnataka and more land in AP.While the river water irrigates the Rayalaseema region, the diversion project canal irrigates most of the region in Telangana, particularly in Mehboobnagar district. On Sunday, irrigation officials planned to put sand bags across the barrage to get more water for Rayalaseema. On the direction of the CM, the DC decided to instruct the police, revenue officials to camp at the site to avoid any untoward situation.The DC said that he would not hesitate to impose prohibitory orders under section 144 of CRPC if required.
