Aligarh: Eleven MPs were caught on camera taking money to ask questions in the sting operation. The expose showed how our MPs can compromise themselves for paltry amounts like Rs 15,000.
There was, however, one exception - an MP, who did not fall into the trap. CNN-IBN's Abhishek Patni tracked down this rarity in India - an honest politician.
At first sight Chowdhary Vijendra Singh of the Indian National Congress may not give the impression of being is an extraordinary politician.
However, he proved that looks could be deceptive and that actions speak louder than words, when he repeatedly turned down the woman who had approached him at his Aligarh residence with cash.
The woman was posing as the representative of a non-government organization from Moradabad.
"A woman came thrice but I didn't entertain her," says Vijendra Singh.
Vijendra Singh has been a Congress MLA from Iglas assembly on five occasions before he won the Parliamentary seat from Aligarh in 2004.
Each of his political victories brought him more power and influence. And the murky nature of Hindi heartland politics also opened doors for him to make money any way he wanted.
Nonetheless, he did not succumb. His actions have made his family extremely proud.
Vijendra Singh condemns the way his fellow Parliamentarians gave in to temptation and what's more, the only honest politician among the hoard of bribe takers says he does not want any recognition for having stood out as the one who wouldn't take the cash on offer.
