The road to PMO: Is it easy?
The road to PMO: Is it easy?
The former Delhi police commissioner says the car with the three people would have been thoroughly checked.

New Delhi: So, how easy is it to get into the Prime Minister's residential complex, the most protected house in the country.

"This car would have been thoroughly checked."

Let's hope the former Delhi police commissioner is right, specially since the three people got past the first barricade at the entrance to the Prime Minister's residence, drove a further hundred yards and generally managed to cock a snook at the PM's personal guard.

Generally, when the first gates to the PM's residence open, the green light only means that three tiers of security await you.

At the first barricade, cars are stopped, visitors are asked for IDs and appointments verified. The visitor and the car are then frisked. Except for the VVIPS, in most cases visitors have to leave their cars and walk.

One wonders if the guards -- possibly more used to seasoned, mostly male politicians -- were surprised into letting the two girls through on Thursday night. Or perhaps it was Yogita's statement that she was Manmohan Singh's niece that threw them off-guard.

At the second checkpoint, at a distance of almost 50 metres from the first one --- where the girls were finally stopped --- an even more elaborate security check is carried out. Sliding gates here are always closed, opening only for those who have prior appointments.

The third and final ring, which most outsiders never encounter, finally leads to the PM's office. His actual residence is far removed even from here. A safe distance of roughly 800 metres.

So the girls’ could have done no damage to the Prime Minister of the country?

The Race Course road, which adjoins the PM’s residence, is open to public with no restrictions and no checks and that's good in a way because if the road was closed then you and me would have been complaining about high-handedness of officials.

But in the end, the Jury is still out whether this misadventure by this group of young people is security breach.

What's your reaction?
