BANGALORE: Former chief secretary and advisor to CM on Urban Affairs Dr A Ravindra urged officials and employees of Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Ltd (BESCOM) to think from consumers’ point of view, while delivering services.Speaking at the inauguration of a two-day training programme on ‘Consumer Education for Effective Participation in Regulatory Process of Karnataka Electricity’, Dr Ravindra said, “Providing information about what to do and how to do is important for a consumer. You must put yourself in their shoes.” He added that consumers have to be advised and BESCOM electricians visiting households have to communicate the problems to the consumers. “It should not be that the electricians come home and go after work. As consumers, we need advise on what can be done,” he said. The training programme has been conducted by Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission along with Centre for Sustainable Development. It covers topics such as procedures to handle consumer complaints, role of electricity ombudsman, customer relationship management and others. Two-year training in BESCOM?BESCOM MD P Manivannan said there were plans to introduce two-year training programme for BESCOM employees. “We are thinking about this, and will soon float tenders in this regard. Those who perform well will be sent abroad for training,” he said.  The state government has earmarked `1 crore for training BESCOM staff, while `50 lakh each has been kept aside for other ESCOMs.
