TN: 3 killed, 33 hurt as bus rams lorry

TIRUVANNAMALAI: Three people died and 33 others were injured in an accident in which a government bus was hit by a lorry near Tiruvannamalai, on Monday morning. The bus started at around 8 am from Tiruvannamalai and was scheduled to reach Chennai via, Chetpet, Vandavasi andKancheepuram.When the bus was nearing Avalurpettai Salai on the new by-pass road, a lorry that was proceeding from Vellore to Thirukovilur hit the rear of the bus. In the impact, the bus fell into a 10-feet deep trench at the side of the road.The injured were taken to the Government Hospital in Tiruvanamalai, where Elumalai (65) of Seriyanthal, Rajalakshmi (62) and Sivapooshnam (50) of Kancheepuram succumbed to their injuries. Few others were admitted to the Pondicherry JIPMER hospital.Following the accident, the local people complained that accidents at the spot was very frequent and common.  They staged a protest demanding a speedbreaker at the spot.
