New Delhi: The childhood friendship which developed during the school days between top IM operatives Asadullah Akhtar and Mohd Atif Ameen played a major role in the 2008 serial blasts, a Delhi court said. In the charge sheet filed on Thursday by Special Cell of Delhi Police disclosed that how friendship between Akhtar and other top IM members, including accused Mirza Shahdab Beg and Ariz Khan (who are absconding) and arrested accused Mohd Hakim, Zeeshan, Shahzad and Saifur Rehman developed in a school in Uttar Pradesh's Azamgarh, where they were studying.
Akhtar, who took admission in a school in 1991 and studied there upto class 11, became friends with Mohd Atif Ameen, who had died in Batla House encounter. Ameen was studying in a nearby school. The police revealed this in its charge sheet filed against 29 top IM operatives in connection with twin blasts at M-block market in Greater Kailash here on September 13, 2008 in which nine persons were injured.
Police has also filed another charge sheet in 2008 Delhi serial blasts case in which 21 people died while 64 injured in an explosion in Karol Bagh. The charge sheet relating to Greater Kailash blasts case, said that Akhtar came in contact with Atif Ameen through one of his friends Azhar Sabbir who was his maternal uncle and Ameen used to talk about Jihad.
"Late Mohd Atif Ameen was an active member of SIMI and used to discuss with them about Jihad and Kashmir/Babri Masjid issues. They used to talk about taking revenge of these
atrocities in India through Jihad (violent struggle). "Thereafter, he (Akhtar) assisted his (Atif Ameen) group Indian Mujahideen for conducting blasts in various cities of India including Delhi on September 13, 2008," it said.
Ameen and his alleged associate Mohd Sajid were shot dead by the special cell in Batla House encounter on September 19, 2008. The police also said that in August 2008, Akhtar and some other accused, including Atif Ameen, had came to Delhi and took a flat on rent in Batla House.
Akhtar, along with IM co-founder Yasin Bhatkal, was arrested by National Investigation Agency (NIA) from Indo-Nepal border in August last year.
