KOCHI: The Chavara Cultural Centre organised a seminar on the importance of tourism sector here on Monday. The function, inaugurated by veteran actor Charu Hasan, was held to felicitate the top outgoing students of Chavara School of Tourism studies. Excise Minister K Babu and Hibi Eden, MLA, presided over the function.The Minister awarded certificates of merit to the students. He also spoke on the growing scope of the state’s tourism sector which could generate more jobs. He stressed on the UDF government’s determination to encourage tourism through expansion of aviation infrastructure in the state. “As of now, the Kannur airport project is on track. This will help boost tourism in the state,” K Babu said. Chief guest Charu Hasan chose to talk about the significance of youth in the nation’s decision-making in his address. “Hibi Eden, the youngest member of Legislature, is a role model for youngsters,” he said. Justice K Sukumaran and Jayakrishna Baskaran and district sales manager of Oman Airlines were also present.
