Srinagar: Striking in a big way soon after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh wrapped up his visit here, terrorists on Thursday hurled a grenade at a tourist bus killing four persons, including three children, from Gujarat and wounding six in Zakoora area of the city.
The blast took place at Batapora locality, 12 kms from here, at around six PM, when the ultras threw the bomb at the bus, which was on its way to Mughal Gardens tourist resort.
The bus had to take the alternative Foreshore Road as the usual Boulevard Road was closed for traffic due to Kashmir roundtable conference being held at Sher-e-Kashmir International Conference Centre, official sources said.
While an eight-year-old boy Rabin was declared brought dead at the nearby Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, Soura, his sister Kishna and two teenagers, Khusbu and Fenai, succumbed to injuries at the hospital. The injured were hospitalised, the sources said.
This is second attack involving a tourist bus in as many days. On Tuesday, a driver and a tourist were killed in a rifle grenade attack on their vehicle at Soura.
No Terror Outfit has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
The tourists were returning from picturesque Sonamarg, some 96 kms from here, when the terrorists struck.
As the bus neared Srinagar, terrorists hurled a grenade which landed into the bus.
There was a big bang and after that "we knew nothing", said a tourist who was wounded in the attack.
All hell broke loose as the bus came to a screeching halt, said another passenger.
One Rakesh Bhai lost his daughter and a son in the attack.
At the hospital where the injured were admitted, the tourists, some of them in pain, wanted Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad to visit see the place to see their plight.
