A group of foreign tourists out skiing in the snows of Gulmarg ran into an endangered snow leopard.
A video of the encounter caught on a camera strapped to one of the skiers showed the startled animal scampering away as the group reached within a few metres of where it huddled in the snow.
It was not to be seen again and the tourists went back to their resort.
The video was taken by Australian Owen Lansbury and uploaded on Facebook.
“We skied our first powder line and the guide in yellow almost ran over the leopard," Lansbury told The Telegraph.
He said the animal let out a "solid roar" before scooting off in to the forest.
The snow leopard is a highly endangered and elusive animal found at over 3000 metres from seal level. In India, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh are listed as potential habitats.
"Pretty amazing experience," Lansbury summed up.
