Train named after Nandankanan

BHUBANESWAR: The name Nandankanan would now be on everyone’s lips across the country. Beginning December 1, Puri-New Delhi-Puri Super Fast Express (12815/12816) will run as Nandankanan Express.    This is for the first time that a train has been named after a zoo in the country.Earlier, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had requested the Ministry of Railways to name the train after the zoo which is celebrating its Golden Jubilee.He had stated that it would be a tribute to the zoo for its contribution to protect animals.The East Coast Railways too had been pushing for the re-christening of the train. The Express which operated via Adra runs on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday from both the directions. The news has lifted the spirits of the zoo authorities who have been facing criticism from different quarters following the death of the newborn tiger cubs.More good news is in the offing with the Zoo Director, Sudarshan Panda, informing that the East Coast Railways  will be consulted to give the coaches a look that goes with the train’s name.
