Guwahati: United States Consulate General in Kolkata has issued travel advisories to all Americans travelling to or residing in Assam to avoid the areas affected by October 30 serial blasts, besides prohibiting US government
employees, from visiting the state without permission.
The advisory, issued after the explosions that killed over 85 people and injured more then 400, stated that "American citizens residing in or visiting Assam should avoid the areas affected by the blasts".
"US government employees are prohibited from travelling to Assam without permission from the US Consulate in Kolkata", the advisory said.
A general travel advisory was also issued. "All Americans travelling or residing in India are strongly encouraged to maintain a high level of vigilance, remain aware of their surroundings, monitor local news reports, avoid crowded places, and take appropriate steps to bolster their personal security".
"If unattended packages are spotted, American citizens should immediately exit the area and report the packages to authorities", the advisory added.
For the latest security information, Americans travelling abroad were asked to regularly monitor the Department's Internet website at http://travel.state.gov/ where the current worldwide caution, travel warnings, and travel alerts can be found.
