Tremor off Thiruvananthapuram coast

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  An undersea tremor measuring 4.7 on the Richter Scale was reported with its epicentre about 400 km from Thiruvananthapuram in the Indian Ocean,  Met Department officials said here on Saturday. The reports of the tremor triggered rumours of a possible tsunami causing panic in the capital.  The Met Department officials announced by 6.45 pm that there was no possibility of any tsunami. CESS director John Mathai clarified that there was tremor did not pose a tsunami threat.   Mathai and senior officials of the CESS are on a visit to the Mullaperiyar dam to study the effects of the quake felt in the district on Friday.
