Two die as cars collide

KOTTAYAM: Two died and 14 injured when two cars collided at Kannadichal at Kumarakom, near here, on Sunday. Thomas Varghese, 52, of Kanjirathil, Karapuzha, and Ajeesh, 20, of Cherupushpam house of Kundara, Kollam, are the deceased. According to the police, the accident occurred when an Innova, in which Ajeesh was travelling, tried to overtake another vehicle and collided with the driving school car, owned by Thomas, before plunging into a canal. Ajeesh was declared brought dead while Thomas succumbed to injuries in the Medical College Hospital. The injured were admitted to the medical college.Eleven youths were travelling in the Innova, while the other car had five passengers. The police have registered a case against the driver of Innova, Tijo, 20, of Pathanamthitta, under section IPC 304 (A) for causing death by negligence, Sub Inspector M J Arun said.
