Islamabad:Two suspected suicide bombers were killed on Sunday when their explosive devices exploded prematurely near a house of a former federal minister in Pakistan's Punjab province, police said.

The incident occurred at Bahawalnagar town at 4.15 am (local time), district police chief Zafar Bukhari said. The two suspected suicide attackers, who were on a motorcycle, were blown to pieces in the vicinity of a house where senior PML-Q leader and former minister Muhammad Ijaz-ul-Haq had been staying, Bukhari said. Ijaz-ul-Haq, the son of late Gen Zia-ul-Haq, was in Bahawalnagar to campaign for the next month's general election and had already left the house by the time the blast took place, police said.

Bukhari said Ijaz-ul-Haq, the former minister for religious affairs, had been provided adequate security in view of reports of a threat to his life.
