Washington: The US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has expressed hope that the civil nuclear deal between India and the US would go through in the future.
Concluding a six-day visit to USA, covering New York, Washington DC and Atlanta, the nine- member delegation of MPs of India found a very positive sentiment in the USA towards India.
In fact, there was excitement amongst all persons and organisations, governmental and non-governmental, about the new level of Indo-US relationship.
The visit by the delegation of MPs, organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), was extremely timely and successful.
The delegation met a wide cross-section of people including Rice, The Pentagon, National Security Council, Think - tanks, health research agency, business organisations, media and Indian Americans and this positive sentiment pervaded through the entire range of discussions.
In the meeting with Rice, she discussed Indo-US relations and spoke specifically about the civil nuclear deal.
She confirmed that whatever agreement goes through would be within the framework of the 18 July 2005 agreement.
CII records its appreciation to the Delegation of MPs for sparing time and for presenting 'India' to the US side with great competence, efficiency, balance and maturity, doing the country proud.
CII plans to institutionalize this programme and organize MPs delegations to the US on a regular basis.
The members of the delegation included Baijayant Jay Panda (BJD), Deepender Singh Hooda (INC), Madhu Goud Yaskhi (INC), Manvendra Singh (BJP), Prema Cariappa (INC), Preneet Kaur (INC), Sachin Pilot (INC), Shahid Siddiqui (Samajwadi Party) and Suresh Prabhu (Shiv Sena), Kiran Pasricha, Deputy Director General, CII, Vikram Badshah, Senior Consultant, CII and Tarina Basu, Executive Officer, CII.
