Bengaluru: Two days after the suicide of an 18-year-old student in Bengaluru, videos have surfaced showing the deceased being shouted at and intimidated by a group of students. The deceased, Meghana C had hanged herself in her apartment in Rajarajeshwari Nagar on Tuesday after she was allegedly ragged.
According to the complaint by her mother Latha Chandrashekar, Meghana, a first-year civil engineering student at Dayanand Sagar College of Engineering, was being ragged by a few students of her class ever since she stood for the position of class representative.
“Her opponent won the position but because Meghana stood against her. The opponent and her friends verbally abused Meghana, asked other students not to take Meghana’s side and sent abusive messages to her. She was pained by this and did not want to go to college. I convinced her to go but for the last one month her Head of Department (HOD) had been sending these students near our house and picking up fights with her," states Latha.
Meghana, who had left for college around 8.30 am on Tuesday, returned home when her parents were at work and had hanged herself.
Based on the mother's complaint, police registered an FIR against HOD Rajkumar, students Sandya, Soudamini, Sandeep and Nikhil. All the accused are absconding.
“We have constituted a five-member internal committee to investigate the matter. We are also investigating the videos that have surfaced now and will inquire with the students seen in the video," CPS Prakash, principal of the college, told media on Friday.
The principal told News18 that Meghana had never approached the anti-ragging cell in the college and was irregular to college.
“We will take necessary action once the enquiry committee submits its report," he added.
