Villagers stop construction work

PARADIP: The villagers of Mathsahi under Nuagaon panchayat joined hands to stop the construction work of the Posco project on Saturday over non-fulfillment of their long-standing demands. Hundreds of peeved land losers of Nuagaon and Gadkujang panchayats alleged that they had not been compensated even a month after the land acquisition. They alleged that hundreds of betel vine labourers were living in a pathetic condition due to non-payment of maintenance allowance and other benefits. UAC secretary Nirbhay Samantray said, “Villagers will stop construction work in Nuagaon and Gadkujang panchayats in a few days as the administration has failed in its commitment.” Erasama BDO Murlidhar Swain said all measures had been taken to fulfil their demands”.
