Vodafone launches mobile money transfer service in Goa
The company has tied up with ICICI Bank for this service, which is already launched in West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi since December last year.

Panaji: Telecom major Vodafone India launched its 'M-Pesa' service, which facilitates money transfer through mobile phone, in Goa.

"This service empowers the unbanked and under-banked sections of the population gain access to financial services through mobile phone," Ishmeet Singh, Business Head (Maharashtra-Goa), Vodafone India, said.

The company has tied up with ICICI Bank for this service, which is already launched in West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi since December last year.

In Goa, Vodafone has 6.4 lakh customers, of which 2.54 lakh are migrants, Singh said, adding that the migrants are potential customers for 'M-Pesa' as they need to remit saved money back home.
