London: Women who shave their legs in the shower waste about 50 billion litres of water a year that is equivalent to four week's of supply in a city like London, a new research has claimed.
Thames Water, the UK's largest water and sewerage company which commissioned the study, said the amount of water wasted in the shower would be enough to supply the whole of London for about 25 days, the Daily Telegraph reported.
The research also found that one in four people leave the sink tap running while they brush their teeth, which accounts for around 120 billion litres of water wasted per year.
A spokesman for Thames Water said: "It may seem like it's always raining, but we've had below average rainfall across our region for nine of the past 12 months.
"Our research proves that the majority of people have a 'water conscience' with more than 90 per cent of people saying they would feel guilty about wasting water.
"We now need to help our customers use even less of it."
