ANGUL: Hundreds of contractual workers of Kaniha NTPC plant struck work at the coal handling plant (CHP) following death of a worker in a mishap on the plant premises on Saturday. Police said Fakir Mohan Sahu, a resident of Balipata village, was killed after being run over by a coal train near the CHP. The irate workers then laid siege to the CHP demanding ` 10 lakh compensation and other benefits for kin of the deceased.Senior NTPC officials rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.Ganja seized: Ganja worth ` 10 lakh was seized by police near Chhendipada town during a raid. Police said a 10-wheeler truck was carrying ganja in 27 gunny bags when police intercepted it. Three persons, including driver of the truck, were arrested. Police said the ganja, grown in the district, was being transported to Delhi and other northern states.Angul SP Satya Brat Bhoi said the three persons were being interrogated.
