Makar Sankranti is one of the most important days in Hinduism and will be celebrated on January 15 this year. This occasion is marked when the Sun enters Makar Rashi (Capricorn zodiac sign), as per Vedic astrology. This year, Ravi Yoga will be formed on the occasion of Makar Sankranti. On this auspicious occasion, after taking a bath and donating, the devotees worship the Sun God. Ravi Yoga is considered the best time for worshipping the Sun god. On Makar Sankranti, one should take a bath in holy rivers and then offer water to the Sun god. Post the offerings, the devotees should donate black sesame, jaggery, rice, wheat, and warm clothes to the poor and needy. Donating these will yield good results in life. An astrologer from Tirupati named Dr Krishna Kumar Bhargava talks to News18 Hindi about the benefits of the Surya Puja during Ravi Yoga:
1. By performing the Surya Puja in Ravi Yoga, the problems in your life will decrease gradually. With the blessings of the Sun god, your lifespan and health will also witness significant improvement.
2. If you commence any work during Ravi Yoga, the probability of that work being successful is higher. It is because Ravi Yoga is believed to destroy all the doshas.
3. Worshiping Lord Bhaskar (another name of Lord Shiva) in Ravi Yoga blesses the devotees with abundant wealth and food. On Makar Sankranti, by the grace of Sun God, Shani Maharaj’s (God of Justice and Karma) house was blessed with riches.
4. Worshipping the Sun God in Ravi Yoga also helps the devotees to make great strides in their careers. On Makar Sankranti, donate things related to the Sun God like jaggery, red clothes, ghee, copper, etc.
5. According to Krishna Kumar Bhargava, the devotees should also not have any ego in their hearts on this day. They should also not disrespect their parents and elders and not indulge in any anti-social activities. They should also offer Arghya to the Sun God by adding red sandalwood and red flowers to the water.
