Pradosh fast is considered an auspicious time in the month of Sawan. This fast is observed twice a month by Lord Shiva devotees and is believed to set one on the path of spiritual enlightenment and remove ignorance and sins. Pradosh means the removal of darkness. One of the most important Pradosh Vrats is Shani Pradosh Vrat. As the name suggests, it falls on Saturday and is considered auspicious. Keeping a fast on this day is believed to be blissful and also blesses an offspring to childless parents.
As per the religious scriptures, Shani Pradosh in the month of Sawan has a great impact on the lives of devotees. If Lord Shiva is worshipped during this time, he is pleased by the devotion and blesses them with happiness, prosperity and wealth. He is also believed to fulfil the wishes of the devotees. Worshipping Lord Shani along with Lord Shiva can help get rid of troubles and the effects of Shani’s dosha.
In an interview with Local18, Pandit Shridhar Shastri shared that Shani Pradosh fast will be observed on Saturday, August 17. According to him, offering Ganga Jal to Lord Shiva on this day is considered to be beneficial. Apart from this, black sesame seeds can also be offered to Lord Shiva by mixing them in Ganga Jal while chanting Shiv Chalisa or Mahamrityunjaya Mantra. The person will get relief from troubles caused by the effects of Shani. Those who have Shani Mahadasha, Sadhesati Dosha or Dhaiya dosha can also seek relief from it. Donating on this day has great significance. One must donate black or blue-coloured clothes or food items to needy people.
Pandit Shridhar Shastri explained that as per the scriptures, observing a fast on Shani Pradosh can help get rid of the negative effects of Shani Dev. By worshipping Lord Shiva and chanting his prayers, the effect of Lord Shani can be avoided. Generally on this day, one must stick to satvik food, which means no non–veg and abstaining from alcohol on this day.
