As expected, 2.0 opened to bumper success on Thursday, raking in Rs 73.5 crore in India alone.
According to Firstpost, the Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar starrer earned Rs 21 crore in north India (Hindi version), Rs 20 crore in Tamil Nadu, Rs 19 crore in Telugu-speaking states, Rs 5.5 crore in Kerala and Rs 8 crore in Karnataka.

According to trade analyst Ramesh Bala, 2.0 earned Rs 2.64 crore in Chennai alone on day 1, beating Vijay’s big Diwali release Sarkar, which earned Rs 2.37 crore.

The S Shankar directorial is also performing well overseas. On day 1, it made Rs 2.05 crore in the US, Rs 58.46 lakh in Australia and Rs 11.11 lakh in New Zealand.

Created on a massive budget of over Rs 500 crore, 2.0 is touted to be the most expensive Indian film to be ever made. It released in more than five languages on over 7,000 screens worldwide on Thursday and has registered 2018’s highest opening so far, beating Thugs of Hindosthan, which collected Rs 52 crore (all versions) on day 1.
2.0 is the sequel to the 2010 blockbuster film Enthiran (Robot) which starred Rajinikanth and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in lead roles.
