Bollywood icon Aamir Khan’s son, Junaid Khan, has made his mark with his Bollywood debut, Maharaj, now streaming on Netflix. The film has received acclaim for its compelling narrative and strong performances. At the recent launch event for the new song Kooriye, performed by debutant Raj Pandit, Aamir Khan expressed his pride in Junaid’s achievement. He admitted feeling stressed before the release about the audience’s reaction but praised Junaid for forging his own path without relying on his father’s influence.
The Laal Singh Chadha star said, “When Junaid’s film Maharaj was released, I was very stressed whether people would like his work or not. Junaid has worked really hard for himself and he never accepted any help from me in any way ever. So I’m very proud and happy that he made it on his own terms in his own way and you know and I can see that.”
During the event, Aamir Khan also spoke about his connection with producer Ashoke Pandit, Raj Pandit’s father. He shared that he empathises with Ashoke, having recently experienced the emotions of a parent with a debuting child. Aamir mentioned that he and Ashoke have known each other since college, which has created a strong bond between them. When Ashoke invited him to attend the event for his son, Aamir agreed without hesitation, given his own recent experience as a father.
At the launch event, Aamir Khan surprised everyone, including Salim Merchant, by revealing that he has been learning to sing. Although he’s primarily known for his acting skills, the actor shared that he has been taking singing lessons for the past year. Aamir mentioned that he enjoys singing and finds it to be a form of meditation.
In his debut film, Junaid Khan encountered challenges when the movie faced legal issues. A petition was filed against Maharaj by members of a certain religious group in the Gujarat High Court, which caused a delay in the film’s release on Netflix. However, after a brief postponement, the court ruled that the film did not target any specific religion and allowed its release.
