Actor Soori’s career has seen a dramatic rise that many would wish for. From a comedian to a protagonist in a Vetrimaaran film – Soori’s evolution, with a beautiful touch of synchronicity, can only be described as cinematic.
Famous actor Parthiban recently opened up about the evolution of actor Soori in an interview. He said, “It is beautiful to see Soori in this state. The height he has reached from the village of Saligramam to Chennai is surprising. Now Soori takes Rs 8 crore fee. Earlier he bought a house in Saligramam, now he is negotiating the price to buy Saligram itself”.
Soori moved to Chennai from Madurai in 1996 to become an actor in the Tamil film industry. After failing to get roles, he took a job as a cleaner in the city to fund his acting ambitions.
He occasionally played a junior artiste appearing in comedy scenes in films such as Winner (2003) and received no recognition for it.
Soori appeared in Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu (2009). He got the suffix “Parotta” to his name because of the “Parotta Contest” scene in which he stuns the hotelier by eating 50 parottas and is willing to eat the same number again. He starred in Sundarapandian (2012), Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam (2013), Pandiya Naadu (2013) and Jilla (2014), Rajini Murugan (2016), Idhu Namma Aalu (2016), Velainu Vandhutta Vellaikaaran (2016) and Sangili Bungili Kadhava Thorae (2017).
He was seen in Sivakarthikey’s Seema Raja (2018) and Vikram’s Saamy Square (2018). However, his performances in these two films were heavily criticised. Soori had back-to-back releases with Namma Veettu Pillai (2019) and Sangathamizhan (2019).
Soori played the lead role in director Vetrimaaran’s crime thriller Viduthalai Part 1 (2023). His performance was highly appreciated by both critics and audiences.
