Chris Hemsworth Recalls Being Turned Down By Kevin Costner For A Role He 'Loved'
At the CinemaCon event, Chris Hemsworth recalled the time when he was turned down by director Kevin Costner for a role he wanted to do.

Best known for his role as Thor in the Marvel films, Hollywood actor Chris Hemsworth has a series of exciting releases lined up. Reuniting with his MCU co-star Scarlett Johansson, Hemsworth has been roped in for Paramount Pictures’ animated film, Transformers One. Ahead of the film’s release, Chris Hemsworth recently got into an interesting conversation and shared an exciting detail. Accompanied by his Transformers One co-star Brian Tyree Henry at CinemaCon, Hemsworth recalled the script for a Kevin Costner project that he wanted to work on but lost to the director himself.

While speaking to the outlet, Hemsworth shared how he tried convincing Costner for the role; however, the director went on to cast himself for the particular role.

“There was a movie, a script that I’d read and loved and was like, ‘I want to get that,’ and then someone said, ‘Kevin Costner has that’. I’d love him as a director. I was like, ‘Goddamnit!’ [I spent an hour the other day trying to convince him and he was like, ‘I’m doing it, kid.’ Didn’t work. I didn’t get the part,” the actor said.

He further explained that it was an “abstract and interesting” film focused on a small story between a man and a woman.

‘As long as I’m still young enough, I’ll play it’: Costner on replacing Chris Hemsworth

On the other hand, Costner also spoke to ET on Tuesday and quipped on the incident. Stating Hemsworth would have to wait for his turn, the director added, “As long as I’m still young enough to play it, I’ll play it.”

Further, the director had a lot of good things to say about the Marvel star.

“He’s so handsome and he’s so good. He’s going to have to go find his own love story. I’m glad he likes this one. If I reached a moment where I thought I could not do that, I would reach out to him. He’s certainly one of our great leading men right now,” Costner added.

During the conversations, both the actor and the director refrained from revealing details about the film in focus.

While Chris Hemsworth is all set to return to theatres with the upcoming Paramount animated film, he recently also announced his next film titled, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. The actor shared a poster of the film and announced that it will be released on May 24, 2024.
