Fighter Director Siddharth Anand Calls Himself 'Fiercely Patriotic': 'Pulwama Incident Angered Me'
Figher director Siddharth Anand says he used to cry while listening to the songs of 1997 movie Border.

While Siddharth Anand is currently enjoying the success of his recent directorial, Fighter, in a recent interview, he called himself “fiercely patriotic” and shared that the 2019 Pulwama attack “angered” him. He also opened up about his connection with war dramas like Border or Haqeeqat as wondered if he was a soldier in his past life.

“I am fiercely patriotic, not really nationalistic maybe but fiercely patriotic,” Anand told Galatta Plus. The director shared that he grew up watching films like Haqeeqat, which was based on the India-China War of 1962. Not just this, Anand revealed that he used to cry while listening to the songs of the 1997 movie Border. “Maybe I was a soldier in my past life,” he said.

On being asked why Indian films like Fighter are being bashed in Pakistan, Anand shared that he did not want to make a fictional film on the Air Force. “I was certain that I didn’t want to make a fictitious film on the Air Force in a genre that is anyway a little alien to us, so I wanted to ground it,” he said.

“Pulwama was an incident that really angered me. It was a movie waiting to happen on what they did. We obviously had to fictionalise a lot of things around it. We had to name the organisation that did it so we have named the organisation, nothing else,” the director added.

Released on January 25, Fighter stars Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone in the lead. The film revolves around the Indian Air Force giving a befitting reply to the terrorism in Pakistan. It also stars Anil Kapoor, Karan Singh Grover, Akshay Oberoi, Sanjeeda Shaikh, Talat Aziz, Pradum Shukla, and Pradum Jaykar in pivotal roles. Fighter has a run time of 2 hours and 46 minutes. The Central Board of Film Certification granted a U/A certification to the film. It has earned close to Rs 150 crore at the Indian box office.
