Filmmaker Sangeeth Sivan Dies at 61, Riteish Deshmukh Pays Tribute

Filmmaker Sangeeth Sivan died on May 8, in Mumbai. He was 61. Although the cause of his death is not revealed, it is claimed the Yoddha director had complications caused due to an infection. Sivan extensively worked in the Malayalam film industry but also made a few Hindi films. He was best known for the cult film Yoddha with Mohanlal. In Hindi, he helmed Kyaa Kool Hai Hum, Apna Sapna Money Money and Yamla Pagla Deewana 2.

The news of Sivan’s death has come as a shock to film enthusiast and celebrities. Riteish Deshmukh, who worked with Sivan in Kyaa Kool Hai Hum and Apna Sapna Money Money, took to X and offered his condolences. “Deeply saddened and shocked to know that Sangeeth Sivan Sir is no more. As a newcomer all you want is someone to believe in you and take a chance.. can’t thank him enough for Kya Kool Hai Hum & Apna Sapna Money Money,” he wrote.

“Soft spoken, gentle and a wonderful human being. Am heart broken today, my deepest condolences to his family and loved ones, his wife, kids, brothers. I will miss you Da !!!!! And your infectious laughter!!! Rest in Glory,” he added while sharing a picture of the filmmaker.

Tusshar Kapoor also remembered the filmmaker. “Don’t have words to describe what I’m feeling right now…. A mentor of sorts, someone who introduced me to comedy with #KyakoolHainHum is no more! Sangeeth ji, I had the honour of working with you again recently but it’ll take me a long time to get over this sad news! RIP sir you will be missed! #SangeethSivan #gem.”

Sivan’s family is yet to issue a statement about his death. The filmmaker’s last project in 2019. He had made his OTT debut with the web series titled Bhram. The series starred Kalki Koechlin in the lead role.
