Nothing lasts forever, and neither has Bennifer 2.0. The Hollywood couple is splitting up once again, after two years of marital bliss and over two decades of a shared history. On Tuesday, September 20, Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce from Ben Affleck, listing the date of separation as April 26, 2024. Besides, she also did not mention any prenuptial agreement. While the couple actually got married on July 16, 2022, in Las Vegas, it was on August 20 that they held a more traditional wedding in Georgia. However, it was no coincidence that the divorce filing came on the same date as their second wedding anniversary.
According to Entertainment Tonight, Jennifer Lopez “intentionally” chose the date, which is very significant to both herself and Affleck. “The wedding anniversary was chosen as a way to symbolise closing this chapter,” the report states, quoting a source. It also adds that both of them are now trying to move on in life and focus on their families.
“It is very sad now that it’s actually done, but they are both trying to move forward and focus on their families. The last few months have been a rollercoaster of emotions, but Jen is taking the steps she needs to in order to take care of herself,” the source said. Amid the multiple reports, the couple is yet to react to the developments formally.
The news of the split came after months of reports suggesting that Lopez and Affleck’s marriage had hit rock bottom. From missing out on public appearances to going without their wedding rings, the mixed signals had fans all confused. Reports also claimed that Affleck moved out of their family home in Beverly Hills.
Started dating in 2002, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck got engaged in a short while but later called it off in 2004. Later, while Affleck moved on with his ex-wife Jennifer Garner, Lopez got married to Marc Anthony (2004–2014).
After several years of their first breakup, they rekindled their romance in 2021. They exchanged vows in Las Vegas in 2022.
