Padmavati Row: No Plan of Releasing The Film In UK, Reveal Sources

In a sensational turn of events, while the British Board of Film Classification on Thursday cleared the conflict-ridden Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film Padmavati, for a scheduled release on December 1, sources close to filmmakers reveal that there's no plan to release the film as of now- not in UK, not in India.

"If we decide to release, we will let you know. There's no plan of releasing the film in UK," said the sources. According to them, the makers are concerned for a commercial reason that if the film is released overseas first, the chances of piracy will create a problem with the copies of film circulated on the internet.

Meanwhile, BBFC has certified the film as 12A and categorized it as a "feature" in "drama" genre and has said that there's "moderate violence, injury detail" in the film. "PADMAVATI (12A) moderate violence, injury detail," read a tweet from BBFC's official handle.

The film, starring Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh in key roles, has created up a storm in India. Despite Bhansali's repeated claims that there's no dream sequence between Rani Padmavati and Alauddin Khilji in the film, several Rajput fringe groups have accused Bhansali of "distorting" historical facts under the guise of freedom of expression.
