Robert Downey Jr Says He Would 'Happily' Return As Iron Man; Kevin Feige, Are You Listening?
Robert Downey Jr. played Iron Man in 10 films for the Marvel Cinematic Universe over a decade.

Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man wrapped up its arc in 2019 with Avengers: Endgame; however, the character’s legacy still looms large in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Dubbed as the inaugural hero of the Marvel Studios franchise, Tony Stark was a prominent figure throughout the Infinity Saga appearing in around 10 films for more than a decade. However, his death in the 2019 film after defeating Thanos clearly emphasised the end of the first era for the MCU. Besides leaving a major impact in the Marvel films, Robert Downey Jr. also won over fans from across the world as he took on the role of the millionaire arms trader-turned-superhero.

While rumours continue to make rounds about whether the OG Avenger will be returning in future MCU films, Robert Downey Jr. recently opened up on the same and shared that he would be happy to return as Iron Man.

In a conversation with Esquire, Downey on being asked about whether he would ever don the red suit again, said, “Happily. It’s too integral a part of my DNA. That role chose me. And look, I always say, Never, ever bet against Kevin Feige. It is a losing bet. He’s the house. He will always win.”

His remarks come at a time when the Marvel Studios head continues to maintain that there are no plans to bring Iron Man back into the fold. In reference to the actor’s final endgame scene, Feige in a Vanity Fair interview last year said, “We are going to keep that moment and not touch it again. We all worked very hard for that and we would never want to magically undo it in any way.”

Gwyneth Paltrow on RDJ improvising Iron Man lines

Downey’s longtime Marvel co-star Gwyneth Paltrow, best known for her role as Pepper Potts also spoke to Esquire and shared an interesting detail while working on the Iron Man films. Paltrow revealed how she eventually stopped bothering to learn her lines as Downey would always toss around the script to improvise and come up with his own lines.

While uncertainties remain over Robert Downeyn Jr.’s return to the MCU, Downey does have a few upcoming projects in the pipeline. While he is set to return as Sherlock Holmes for Sherlock Holmes 3 with director Dexter Fletcher, the actor also has The Sympathizer, based on Viet Thanh Nguyen’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name.
