Saif Ali Khan Wanted Kareena Kapoor to Play Kaa in Netflix’s Mowgli Legend of the Jungle
Kareena Kapoor says her fans will be pleasantly surprised on hearing her play Kaa.

Kareena Kapoor Khan, who has given her voice to Kaa in Netflix’s upcoming film Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle, says her husband Saif Ali Khan wanted her to play the python.

“When the project was just offered to me, Saif said he hoped that I was offered Kaa only. Because it’s a very powerful and unique character. So I am very honoured to be playing and lending my voice to this character,” Kareena said at the red carpet of the film’s special screening in Mumbai on Sunday.

On why she agreed to be a part of the project, she said, “Everybody has grown up watching The Jungle Book. Our whole youth has been about Mowgli, Bagheera, Baloo and other characters. These characters have actually lived with us. I think it’s amazing that now we are getting to see them on a global platform like Netflix.”

Calling the experience “very different” from everything she has done so far, she said, “My fans have seen me doing girl-next-door roles. But, I have always tried to do something different and with this, everyone will be pleasantly surprised when they hear me playing Kaa.”

Several A-list actors have come on board to give voice to the iconic animal characters in the film. In the Hindi version, Kareena plays Kaa, Abhishek Bachhan Bagheera, Madhuri Dixit Nisha, Jackie Shroff Shere Khan and Anil Kapoor plays Baloo.

In the English version, Christian Bale plays Bagheera, Cate Blanchett Kaa, director-actor Andy Serkis Baloo and Benedict Cumberbatch plays Shere Khan.

In the film, which premieres globally on Netflix on December 7, Indian-American child-actor Rohan Chand will be seen as Mowgli, Matthew Rhys as Lockwood and Freida Pinto as Messua.
