Sanjay Dutt Remembers Sunil Dutt and Nargis on What would have been Their 63rd Wedding Anniversary
Sunil Dutt met Nargis on the sets of Do Beegha Zameen in the mid-1950s. Nargis was already an established, popular actor at this time and Sunil was just beginning his career.

For most people, parents are the role model who shape our lives. From work ethic to love—everything a child imbibes in their growing years is inspired more or less by the parents. Echoing similar sentiments, actor Sanjay Dutt shared a throwback picture of his late parents on the occasion of their wedding anniversary, citing how they taught him the meaning of love. The famous Bollywood couple, Sunil Dutt and Nargis, had one of the most fairy-tale love stories in the industry.

“Both of you taught me the real meaning of love. Happy Anniversary Mom & Dad,” Sanjay wrote in the caption. He shared a black-and-white candid photograph where Sunil is looking at Nargis fondly and they both are laughing. The picture itself showcases how deeply in love the couple used to be.

Many fans commented with positive messages on what would have been the couple’s 63rd wedding anniversary.

Sanjay’s sister Priya Dutt also shared a throwback to wish her departed parents. Resonant of her brother’s emotions, Priya wrote, “Together forever, even in death the love was alive till they met again on the other side. Happy Anniversary Mom and Dad”

Their love story is like a plot of a romance book. Sunil met Nargis on the sets of Do Beegha Zameen in the mid-1950s. Nargis was already an established, popular actor at this time and Sunil was just beginning his career. Nargis also happened to be Sunil’s long-time crush, so it must have been a star-struck moment for the young actor.

But the star’s life was in turmoil at that time. Rumoured to be involved with Raj Kapoor (who was already married and had kids at the time), Nargis’s love life was a mess. She reportedly went through bouts of depression, even contemplating suicide at one point.

Then, on the sets of Mother India, a mishap trapped Nargis in the midst of a raging fire. Sunil, who was playing her son in the film, rescued her from the fire like a gallant hero, carrying her out in her arms. He suffered major burns on his body.

Nargis became his nurse and eventually, fell in love. The fairy tale came to an end when Nargis died of pancreatic cancer in 1981. Sunil passed away in 2005 after a heart attack.
