Splitsvilla X5’s Digvijay Singh Rathee Reacts To Criticism Over His ‘Body-Shaming’ Comment
Digvijay Singh Rathee's comments irked his fellow Splitsvilla X5 contestants Shreya Kalra and Shubhi Joshi.

Splitsvilla X5 contestant, Digvijay Singh Rathee has reacted to uproar over his recent comments on body weight. During a media event, Digvijay shared his opinion on fitness and self-acceptance and said, “Agar koi mota hai toh hai 9 (If someone is fat, they are fat).” The comments irked Digvijay’s fellow contestants and many others who perceived that he was trying to body shame.

However, Digvijay has denied such allegations and said he was trying to promote acceptance of body weight.

“I understand that the topic of weight can be sensitive, and people may interpret things differently, but my stance remains focused on self-improvement and personal responsibility,” he said.

He continued, “I believe that if someone can make positive changes to their health and fitness, they should take that opportunity. This isn’t about shaming anyone; it’s about recognising potential and pushing oneself to achieve better health, mentally and physically.”

Digvijay shared that he intended to motivate and not offend anyone. “I would say to those who felt affected by it: take the message as a challenge to prove doubters wrong, to work hard, and to feel proud of your achievements, whatever they may be.”

When asked about body positivity, the Splitsvilla X5 contestant said, “I’m all for body positivity. Everyone should feel good about who they are. That said, we can’t lose sight of the importance of health. Body positivity and fitness can go hand in hand; you can love yourself while still striving for better health and well-being”

He added that fitness is not about aesthetics or fitting in a certain image.

“The key is to have these discussions without diminishing anyone’s journey,” Digvijay said.

The controversy unfolded when Digvijay and other Splitsvilla X5 contestants were attending a press meet. During the conversation, he shared his opinion on body shaming.

Following this, other constants including Shreya Kalra schooled him, saying that one shouldn’t pass such a comment in the first place as no one knows what a person might be going through. Whereas Shubhi Joshi echoed her thoughts and added, “You’re right. Someone may be suffering from a physical condition that we don’t know about.” Despite their objections, Digvijay did not budge from his stance. He added, “If someone is unhappy with their body weight, they would work on it. If they’re content, then what’s the problem with hearing about it? Nobody goes out of their way to call someone fat anyway.”
