The Cut writer Mariah Smith apologises to Priyanka Chopra, Nick Jonas and her readers for slamming the Indian actress with her offensive article. The writer had penned an article in which she labelled Priyanka as a "modern-day scam artist".
On Saturday, she took to Twitter to apologise for the same. She wrote, "I want to sincerely apologise to Priyanka Chopra, Nick Jonas, and to the readers, I offended and hurt with my words. I do not condone racism, xenophobia, or sexism. I take full responsibility for what I wrote, and I was wrong. I am truly sorry."

The article claimed that Nick shares a "fraudulent relationship against his will". The piece was full of racist, first world complex and misogynist undertones.
Reacting on the same, Priyanka told a publication, “I don’t even want to react or comment. It’s not even in my stratosphere. I’m in a happy place at this moment. These kind of random things can’t disturb it.”
The article was brutally slammed on social media by many people, including Nick's brother Joe Jonas and his fiancee, "Game of Thrones" star, Sophie Turner.
This is disgusting. @TheCut should be ashamed to have someone write such evil words. What Nick & Pri have is Beautiful Love. Thank u, Next. https://t.co/G3hvXmhm9O— J O E J O N A S (@joejonas) December 5, 2018
This is wildly inappropriate and totally disgusting. Very disappointed that The Cut would give anyone a platform to spew such bullshit. https://t.co/iYKaifKJP6— Sophie Turner (@SophieT) December 5, 2018
Bollywood actors Sonam Kapoor, Swara Bhasker and singer Sona Mohapatra also flagged the article as sexist.
For a publication that “shows women’s what they are made of” @TheCut has a lot to answer for . The article on @priyankachopra was sexist , racist and disgusting. Also it’s written by a woman which is so sad. It reeks of envy and bitterness. @mRiah shame on you! https://t.co/bmbbX7LrAT— Sonam K Ahuja (@sonamakapoor) December 5, 2018
Depressed with the state of the world & current affairs? Here’s some good ol’ fashioned puerile filth published by @TheCut 2 add some pointless venom 2 ur day. Also someone invite @mRiah to an Indian wedding ???????????? Might assuage some of her misguided angst! #yellowjournalism https://t.co/3q8cPMElrp— Swara Bhasker (@ReallySwara) December 5, 2018
In her article Mariah went on to say, "All Nick wanted was a possible fling with Hollywood's latest It Woman, but instead he wound up staring straight at a life sentence with a global scam artist."
"Even more upsetting, she's a scam artist who never even took the time to make sure he was comfortable riding a horse before arranging for him to enter their wedding ceremony on horseback," Smith had written.
After the furore, the website issued an apology and said it has deleted the objectionable article.
An earlier story about Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas did not meet our standards. We've removed it and apologize https://t.co/DkcOatMV2z— The Cut (@TheCut) December 5, 2018
