In a press statement, Tom Holland expressed his excitement to be a part of his debut stage production Romeo and Juliet, based on Shakespeare's novel.

Tom Holland broke the hearts of a million fans after he announced a year-long sabbatical from films last year. Now, nearly a year after his statement, The Spiderman: No Way Home alum is finally back at his professional commitments. However, instead of making a movie comeback, he has returned for a debut stage production of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. The actor will be essaying the titular role of Romeo scheduled to be held at the Duke of York’s Theatre in London from May 23 to August 3. With the play’s director-producer Jamie Lloyd announcing the cast, Tom Holland has expressed his excitement about being part of the project.

In a press statement by Deadline, an overjoyed Tom Holland said, “Beyond excited to announce our cast for Romeo and Juliet. I can’t wait to get started and I know we’ll create something really special together.” The previews of the stage play will begin on May 11.

Besides Tom Holland, Francesca Amewudah-Rivers has been roped in to play the female lead of Juliet. Francesca Amewudah-Rivers was a part of the 2012 BBC sitcom Bad Education for two seasons. In a statement, the actress expressed her enthusiasm to be a part of Romeo and Juliet. “I’m so grateful to be making my West End debut as Juliet with The Jamie Lloyd Company. It’s a dream to be joining this team of incredible artists with Jamie at the helm,” she said, as quoted by Deadline. She also promised to “bring a fresh energy” to the play’s narrative alongside her co-star Holland and was ready to “welcome new audiences to the theatre.”

As per the cast poster released on the official Instagram handle of Jamie Lloyd Company, the other members of Romeo and Juliet include Freema Agyeman as the Nurse, Tomiwa Edun as Capulet, Michael Balogun as Friar, Daniel Quinn-Toye as Paris, Mia Jerome as Montague, Nima Taleghani as Benvolio, Ray Sesay as Tybalt and Joshua-Alexander Williams as Mercutio.

Meanwhile, Tom Holland and Zendaya are reported to be joining hands again for another Spiderman movie, tentatively titled Spiderman 4, claims insider Jeff Sneider, as cited by Comicbook. Presumably, Fast and Furious 9 director Justin Lin will be helming the film.
