During the fun conversation, the show host and popular director Karan indulged in a heartfelt conversation with the Kapoor sisters, actresses Janhvi and Khushi Kapoor. The three of them shared their emotions with utmost honesty, touching millions of hearts. Amid the deep and heartbreak stories about how Janhvi and Khushi processed the unfortunate death of their mother, the episode also a heartwarming moment when Karan shared his fanboy moment with Sridevi and admiration towards the legendary actress.
As Karan Johar opened up about his love for Sridevi, he said, “I have to say one thing you do know and I’ve said this time and again about how crazy and madly in love I was with your mother. I was her biggest fan. You all have lived through different beats of technology. But for me, the video phase was the cinema halls. Nobody in the side of town that I lived in used to go and watch Hindi movies. That was the phase where your mom and Jeetu ji did movies. I’ve seen all of them.”
Recalling the time when he first met Sridevi, the director said that he became obsessed with the actress after he saw her for the first time at the premiere of the film Mr India. He went on to elaborate how it was to meet her and added “the first time I met her was actually in 1993 when she did a film for my dad, called Gumrah and I went to this photoshoot that Rakesh Shreshtha was shooting and my knees were rattling, because I was so nervous.”
Speaking further, Karan Johar asserted that Manish Malhotra – who he met for the first time on the same day – suggested he walk up to Sridevi and tell her that she was looking great, which made him believe that the renowned fashion designer was snooty.
Notably, Janhvi Kapoor’s first film was released weeks after her mother Sridevi accidentally drowned in UAE where she went to attend the wedding of Boney Kapoor’s nephew, Arjun Marwah’s wedding. She was hailed as one of the top actresses of her times and is popular for films like Naagin, Mr India, English Vinglish, Mom, and Sadma.
