Fans were left surprised and disheartened by the recent announcement by actress Urmila Matondkar that she was seeking a divorce from her husband of 8 years, Mohsin Akhtar Mir. The couple had got married in 2016 in a low key affair with Manish Malhotra being the only person in attendance from the film industry. Urmila and Mohsin’s wedding celebrations beautifully blended traditions, starting with a Hindu ceremony followed by a traditional nikah. After their union, they enjoyed a blissful marital life, maintaining a low profile and staying away from the media’s constant attention. Their private life drew attention again on September 24, when news of Urmila filing for divorce spread.

It is worth noting that Urmila and Mohsin have been married for over eight years, yet they have not embraced parenthood. Over time, Urmila’s fans have often inquired about when she might consider becoming a mother, but she has rarely addressed these questions. She did once touch upon the issue during an old interview.

The actress expressed a nuanced view regarding motherhood, indicating that she is both looking forward to and not looking forward to embracing it. She emphasised that not every woman is obligated to become a mother, reflecting her belief in individual choices regarding parenthood. Urmila hinted at the possibility of adoption. Urmila had said, “If it happens, it happens. I am not looking forward to it, nor am I ‘not looking forward’ to it. It’s not necessary for every woman to be a mother. Motherhood should happen for the right reason. I love children. There are many children out there who need love and care and it is not necessary that they have to be born out of you to be loved”.

Last year, Mohsin Akhtar shared a photo on Instagram featuring a cute child sitting on his lap as they posed for the camera. Immediately after posting, many people assumed the child was his and began sending congratulations to the couple. As the couple received a flood of well-wishes, Mohsin updated the caption to clarify that the child was actually his niece, Aira, which put an end to the speculation.
