South Korean BTS boy band member Kim Tae-hyung, popularly known as V treated fans with his solo debut album titled Layover. Consisting of six songs (Slow Dancing, Rainy Days, Love Me Again, Blue, For Us, and Slow Dancing Piano Version), Layover was dropped on September 8. The BTS Army was taken into frenzied excitement with Layover bagging the second position on the Billboard 200 in the United States. Now, after more than a month of Layover’s release, V has come up with another surprise for his followers. On October 23, he shared the announcement of collaborating with South Korean composer and producer FRNK and American singer-songwriter Cautious Clay, creating two remix versions of Slow Dancing.
Slow Dancing’s remix music video with FRNK was dropped by V’s management agency Hybe Labels on YouTube. Beginning with a countdown, the video opens with some behind-the-scenes clips of V and the other members shooting the Slow Dancing song sequence. Joining forces with the two musical maestros, V presented a Brazilian-style version of the otherwise slow and soulful track. The instrumental rendition of Slow Dancing is infused with Afro-inspired rhythms and energetic rhythms.
The new version of Slow Dancing bears similarity to FRNK’s music style of blending lush and atmospheric elements. Even more visually intriguing is the grainy and backstage footage, which features V’s closeup shots that intermittently pop and fade throughout the entire sequence. “The animation inserted in between the footage highlights the uplifting, joyous mood of the remix, while the video captures a variety of V’s charms including scenes of him being serious and focused on set to being playful with his facial expressions," read a statement about the music video, as reported by Billboard.
Meanwhile, Slow Dancing’s second remix with Cautious Clay is more of an instrumental version with plenty of flute playing and drum beatings. The jazzy mix is ear-pleasing, taking us to the bygone music era. The music video of the same has not been dropped yet. After Layover’s release, V conducted his solo fan meeting for the first time in Seoul on October 14. The BTS Army thronged the premises in large numbers with BTS member Jimin’s surprise appearance at the event, creating a fresh round of excitement.
On the personal front, HYBE earlier announced that like Suga, J-Hope, and Jin, V, Jimin, and Jungkook are likely to join the military services soon. The enlistment plans are expected to be announced by the end of 2023.
